History of the Infantry Academy
It was founded in Athens in 1928 by the French Military Mission, which, under the leadership of General Girard, had undertaken the organization of the Greek Army during this period.
Initially it was called the School of Infantry Application and included the Departments of Lieutenants and Unit Commanders.
It operated in succession:
– In Athens from 1928 to 1935.
– In Thessaloniki from 1936 to 1940, where it operated until 1940, in the camp of the Anoteras School of War (ASP).
– In Athens in 1945 after the liberation, after it ceased its operation in 1940 due to the war, and until 1946 as a Battalion of the “General Center for the Training of Axes”, again located in the old Military School of Evelpidon (SSE).
– In 1947 it was transferred to Chalkida and since then until today it has been operating in the “Major Infantry Major Velissariou Ioannis” Camp under the name “PIZIKO ACADEMY”.
