History of the Museum

The Museum is located in the premises of the Velisario Camp where the Infantry School is located. It was created when the School was established in 1947 and was moved to the renovated current building in 1998. It was inaugurated in its present form on 23 April 1998 on the feast of St. George by the Minister of Defence Mr. Chochatzopoulos. It consists of the lobby, the first armament hall and the second armament hall. In the lobby of the Museum there are war flags of various infantry units, photographic material with themes from the Macedonian struggle, the Balkan wars and the First and Second World Wars as well as a display case where the uniform, the medals and the sword of Anchis (PZ) P. Mysyris who was the Lieutenant of the Pindos detachment during the Greek-Italian war 40-41 under the command of Colonel (PZ) Davakis Kon/nos. In the two halls of the Museum are exhibited heavy and light infantry armament of various countries that were mostly used by the Greeks in the various struggles of the nation or are spoils of the Greek army, manufactured from the half of the 18th century until the Second World War.
