Major General Lysander Xerogiannis of Vassiliou was born on 28 October 1966 in Kalamata and comes from Ch. He is born in Kalamata, Greece, and comes from Strefion of Messinia. He completed his high school studies in Messini and Megara.
He entered the Military Academy of Evelpidon in 1984 and graduated in 1988, being named Lieutenant Infantry.
He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 1991, Captain in 1995, Major in 2001, Lieutenant Colonel in 2007, Colonel in 2013, Brigadier in 2019 and Lieutenant General in 2022.
Initially, he was posted as a Platoon Leader. in the 11th SG. Subsequently, as a junior officer, he served as a Platoon Leader, Company Commander and 3rd-4th Bureaux Officer in the 588 TEA, as Company Commander of the Newly Recruited Soldier Training Company in the 9th CP, as Commander of the Independent 10th Anti-Tank Company, as Sub-Commander of the 561 M/K CP, as well as Commander of the 535 M/K CP and the 2nd Battalion of Eagles. In addition, as a Staff Officer he served as a Director at the 2nd-3rd SA of the 36th DTE, at the 4th SA of the Heavy Infantry Training Centre (KEBOP), and as a Section Chief at the General Staff of the National Guard in Nicosia and at the Operations Directorate (A1) of the General Staff of the Hellenic Defence Forces.
Since his promotion to the rank of Brigadier he was posted, from 14 Mar 19 to 24 Mar 20, as Commander of 30 M/K Battalion PZ “TOMORITSA” and subsequently to the General Staff of the Army, on Mar 20 as Director of the Recruiting Directorate-FES/DEPS (A4) and on Mar 21 as Director of the Operations Directorate-FES/DEPS (A1).
He successfully attended all the Infantry Armament Schools and attended the SDF at ADISPO and the SDF.
He holds a Masters Degree in Applied Strategy for International Security from the University of Plymouth.
He speaks English.

He is married to Mrs. Vasiliki Markou (Primary Education Teacher) and they have two (2) children. Irene (Psychologist) and Basil (graduate of the Naval Cadet School and current Ensign of the Navy).
